Insomnia is a bitch!

And so I am exhausted but awake for no reason watching the news and trolling the internet for information on Hurricane Gustav.

I'm mad, and I'll tell you why I'm mad.

My family is from a little country in South America called Guyana. Which I would say is a decidedly third world country. Not always running water, rolling blackouts everyday, horrible economy etc. etc.

Here's my issue. Guyana is a country that lies well below sea level and the only thing keeping the whole country from being the next Atlantis is a wall the runs along the Eastern coast not unlike the levee system that is in place in New Orleans. Soooo, every year during the rainy season all of the coastal villages are flooded and people go on with life normally.

Now, HOW THE HECK in a country where you can barely buy a decent pair of underwear are people not dying and homeless every year like the people in New Orleans? I mean, after Katrina, you would think that Americas high paid engineers would have come up with a better drainage system where they wouldn't have to worry about this happening again instead of quaking in their boots and evacuating all of the residents in New Orleans AGAIN?

Granted, tropical storms are alot less powerful than a category 3 hurricane. Guyana, however, goes through this every year which would result in the same amount of wear and tear, no?

It just doesn't make any sense y'all. Something stinks, and I don't like it. My prayers go out to all of the evacuees from New Orleans. I pray that your homes, businesses and families will still be intact after Gustav hits.

Be Strong.
